i am one of ford's biggest defenders but some of y'all are really out here arguing that he has never struggled with pride or hubris. im sorry but those flaws are a prominent aspect of his arc and central to his canon characterization. i think you might just not like ford actually
#just to clarify#i am NOT saying these flaws make him a bad person#or deserving of being manipulated by bill#I'm just saying that being victimised doesn't absolve him from also being flawed#also he impoves!!! he overcomes these flaws in canon!!!#if you genuinely think ford never struggled with these things than what do you think happened in the story of gravity falls?#there would be no narrative if he was always a perfect flawless person#lowkey scared to post this one#i promise im more on the side of the ford defenders than those who demonize him#i just wish to introduce some nuance#peace and love on planet ford#gravity falls#stanford pines#ford pines#discourse#ig?#character analysis#but barely#gravity falls analysis#icarus#he didn't flap hard enough

im also old enough to remember when the big discourse on tumblr dot edu was "is this famous musician romanticizing mental illness/using depression as an aesthetic" and like every example was just a singer singing about their own mental health, including ones who have been explicitly open about diagnosis and treatment so idk what you all want besides a doctors note atp
LIKE LAST POST I STG but ...maybe im too trusting or something but if i see someone talk about depression and hospitals and references to dying in their art my first thought is wow these must be concepts they really relate to and resonate with, possibly things they have experience with... not why are you romanticizing mental illness 😭...

I love that Stannarrator and Billford are both toxic yaoi, but in slightly different fonts.
Stannarrator is toxic yaoi in that, they're the only two beings in the entire Parable. There's no one else to interact with and they become unhealthily codependent on each other, more so after the Skip Button. But it doesn't *really* matter because again, they're the only two people *ever*. They're unhealthy and toxic and don't really know how to communicate, but they have all of eternity to learn and with virtually no consequences, their relationship is somewhat peaceful. It's laying down in a room filled with lights for decades, repeating the same endings over and over again but it's still bearable because it's with the one you love and it doesn't affect anyone but the two of you.
Billford is toxic yaoi in that they're NOT the only two beings in the universe, and Bill will (and has) destroyed dimensions for Ford. It's also an unhealthy codependency, moreso on one side if I'm being honest, but that Bill would do anything to keep Ford. Their relationship is the raging fire of a burning building, absolutely volatile. It's the destruction of an entire planet, breaking all known laws of the universe just to get to the one you love. It's sacrificing everyone else because no one can hold a candle to your significant other.
Anyways just some thoughts! I love toxic old man yaoi!! >w<

Gravity Falls Headcanon: Feral Ford
Okay, so...I like this idea because there is some sense to it.
Ford had been traversing different dimensions for 30 years. I have very little doubt that he has picked up at least a few odd quirks depending how long he spent in a specific dimension.
One that I did have in mind was that he pretty much gained an iron stomach of sorts, or is unbothered to eat strange looking foods, what with him likely eating strange (otherworldly) foods in order to survive.
The main quirk I want to talk about is him gaining some animalistic behavior along the way. Regardless of what you believe in (coming from a non-denominational Christian), humans are animals. What separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom is our higher mental capacity and emotional intelligence.
Despite this, humans are capable of delving into a primitive mindset if given the right circumstances and there are alleged cases of this, usually in the form of feral children, but I digress.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
And Ford did what he had to do to survive. Seriously, what was his first year in the multiverse like? When he got sucked in, he was on the verge of insanity and likely suffered from sleep deprivation due to Bill's influence. What was the first dimension like and how did he survive it?
Regardless for now, what if Ford spent a long time on a planet lacking lifeforms of emotional intelligence, which resulted in him adopting behaviors from the animals on that planet. Not only that, but most of his senses are heightened to help him survive, maybe even garnering a sixth sense of sorts, mostly that of sensing danger seconds before it happens.
Once he is able to leave this planet, he slowly, but surely, regains most of his composure, but those instincts still remain and once he returns to his home dimension, those instincts are both a fascination to behold but also a worrisome perk depending on the situation.
He purrs when content/relaxed enough or having a peaceful sleep...the latter which is unfortunately not very common for the poor man (damn you, Bill). He can't handle a lot of smells and can actually pick up the smell of blood due to those heightened senses.
Possible PTSD aside, Ford usually has a handle on his more animalistic instincts. But all rational thought can be thrown out the window when he feels that he and/or his family was threatened to the highest he could handle. He'll sneer, snarl and growl, bare his teeth, and poise himself to either attack (either with a weapon or his own hands) or protect his family.
Like a wolf protecting his pups. His pack.
He's not exactly proud of this, finding it shameful for him to act in such a way in a civilized world, even though it was a means of survival and the others don't hold it against him.
Mabel especially loves his purring, finding it relaxing, and Dipper is fascinated by his heightened senses.
I have read multiple fics of Feral Ford on AO3 and they are a nice read. I'll make link posts to them when I have the time.

Home, Pt. 2
While McKay and Ford are on the alien planet, we find Sheppard in his room reading War and Peace. The book is shown here for the first time but not for the last. This is a pretty clever bit of subtext.
Most people proooobably haven't read the book (less so when the series aired) and based on the title, they think it's about war (and peace). But it's actually about relationships that take place during wartime, against the backdrop of war, which is also what SGA is. The war with the wraith rages on in the background while we follow the relationships of a few individuals. On a grander scheme, the novel teaches us that the tapestry of history is woven by the moral choices of individuals.
There are three main characters, Pierre, Andrei and Natasha. Tolstoy's own sexuality has been the topic of academic debate for decades and decades, and it is pretty well accepted that even if he wasn't out and about bisexual, he did experience and expressed same-sex desire, especially in his youth; and this desire can be read into his works, particularly War and Peace (cf. J. S. Castro, Queer Tolstoy: A Psychobiography). The homoerotic vibes between Pierre and Andrei have been noted by many, and they start from the very beginning of the book, which is where Sheppard is in this episode. The fact that he hasn't gotten very far in his reading is lampshaded in the episode.
The thing is. This must have been the entire purpose of bringing up the book in this episode. Because immediately before we see Sheppard with the book, we are on a call with McKay to the alien planet where he tells Atlantis that "We'll be back in time for supper." Many readers have noted that there's a lot of subtext between Andrei and Pierre at the beginning of the book:
Like, Sheppard was reading this exact thing at the start of the book while McKay was talking about coming back for supper.
Sheppard is sitting on his bed reading a homoerotic romance novel about Pierre, the large-bodied, ungainly and socially awkward guy and his taller, handsome military officer best friend with clear-cut features, Andrei. It's a little on the nose, is it not?
I mean, there is the plausible deniability. Given the time of its writing, the readers, if they so choose, can read the novel in heteronormative way. It's homoerotic but not explicitly homosexual. But, uh.
The point is, while Sheppard is attracted to Mckay, while he finds him all kinds of hot, underneath it all he is a big softy with a romantic heart. This is why Rodney "getting the girl" becomes so important to him when we near the end of the series. He wants the man he loves to have his happily ever after. He wants it so hard that he ignores all the signs that point to the fact that it is him, he's Rodney's happily ever after, and not the woman that we are shown time and again is totally and utterly wrong for him when the two (Sheppard and Keller) are juxtaposed. The woman that is in his arms in the final scene, where McKay's final words are "What else do I need?" with a lost, searching look toward Sheppard. That was the actual final scene of the show. But I get ahead of myself.
In this scene, Weir actually mentions that Sheppard is on page 17 of the book (lampshade!). Depending on the pagination, it would seem like he's a few pages after the supper scene. Possibly the page with "Moreover, he could see by her manner that she was one of those women - mostly mothers - who having once made up their minds, will not rest until they have gained either end, and are prepared if necessary to go on insisting day after day and hour after hour, and even to make scenes." This would fit fell with Weir barging into his quarters, Sheppard having been reading the actual the supper scene during Weir and McKay's supper call.
It's also interesting that Weir mentions McKay by name right before this:
Now, this is a pretty flirty look Sheppard gives Weir, especially if compared with the "You said it wasn't fog" and the "Of course we would" looks he gave McKay earlier. While I will argue that they are differently motivated, if we interpret one of the looks as flirty we should do so with the others. Weir gets one look, McKay gets two.
However. What Sheppard is actually doing here is categorically refusing her request. He does not want to go back to earth. Following her mention of McKay, he is not just telling her that it's not happening. He's using his charm to make sure he gets his way. Here, he wants something from Weir and hence uses the weapon that he knows gets the job done (and in fact, he kind of starts manipulating Weir to get her to go instead). With McKay? He basically wanted nothing besides getting a reaction from the guy, to build rapport, maybe to get him to smile.
Like, I am betting there are hosts of people that read Weir and Sheppard's interaction as romantic just because they are a man and a woman and it, sweet fancy Moses, takes place in his bedroom! But from the look she gives him by the end, she understood exactly what he was trying to do. Sheppard was damn cold here. They are both saying one set of things and having an entirely other conversation underneath about the balance of power. The fact that he sounds so soft and looks so friendly, unthreatening, just makes it even more chilling. Neither of them is willing to budge.
It is also notable that by this time Weir knows to use McKay in an attempt to manipulate Sheppard. She is a smart woman.
The scene transitions to Ford and McKay talking about going back while McKay works on the DHD. Ford asks him if he'd want to go back, given the chance. McKay tells him that it's a moot question, he can't go because he's needed. This is in juxtaposition with the conversation that just took place on Atlantis between Weir and Sheppard. Unlike McKay, neither of them is irreplaceable. Not really. They could leave, they just don't want to. But the thing is, while McKay tells Ford this, his constructed reality shows us that it isn't what he really thinks deep inside -- that he's invaluable everywhere. His cavalier attitude is masking the fact that he, too, just wants to stay because he is lonely. He needs to be needed.
On Atlantis, Teyla suggests that Sheppard might want to "reunite with loved ones" back on earth, and Sheppard can't even face her, can't even look her in the eye as he lies: "Yeah, I would love to go back." You see, his loved ones are not on earth. Once he starts listing earth things to Teyla in an attempt to distract her from looking into what's really going on with him, his eyes actually light up as he remembers popcorn, the time they had it in Hide and Seek (S01E03), and how they could get more.
You know, more of the stuff that we saw him offering to Rodney as the very first thing in that scene but that he didn't actually get to share with the man because he couldn't eat any due to his personal shield. They could get more of it. To do that thing all over again. Only with Rodney being able to share some with him. Cause he's thinking about Rodney pretty much all of the time now. Teyla's wtf? reaction to all of this is pretty telling.
Sheppard runs up the stairs once they get an alert from the gate. He looks hella relieved to be hearing about McKay, to hear that he's okay (and won't be needing extraction by puddle jumper that takes 804 years). Like he's letting out a breath here he hadn't even realized he was holding in:
Once they learn that they will be able to contact earth, Sheppard does the lip thing of not knowing how to deal with difficult emotions. His face does like a dozen different things here:
He's happy, he's sad, he's apprehensive, he's unsure, he's resigned, and he sure as hell doesn't want anyone to see any of this.
Next, we presumably enter the constructed reality. The entities couldn't allow them to dial the gate to another galaxy so it follows that once Weir, Teyla, and Sheppard gated to the planet, all of them were rendered unconscious.
So whose reality are we watching as they contact earth? It could be a shared one like they have at the end. But it's also possible we are already watching Weir's constructed reality. Here, she gets what she wants. A successful contact to earth, a way for them to get back, Rodney is well-behaved, supportive and cheerful. And what's interesting: Sheppard is short and nonchalant with McKay (he rolls his eyes and dismisses him with "What's there to be ready for?"), and keeps glancing at Weir who he stands side-by-side with.
Not really behavior we've seen from him previously. Yes, he could be tense from conflicted feelings regarding a return to earth but this reads like Weir's wish-fulfillment fantasy. We even see her send in her personal IDC. It's possible they all experienced some variation of this with their own particular flavour but I would argue that the part where they contact earth is already a part of the fabrication.
Continued in Pt. 3 whence we finally get inside their minds!

People are going to have pronouns that aren’t he or she. If you can’t understand that, then don’t argue with minors about it over tumblr. 🖕-Jeremy

So….what’s Miyuki and Spork doing in their afterlife? How did they ended up falling for each other when they were alive? I know the green control brain made Miyuki break it off with him (jealous old hag😅) but where there awkward moments between them after that? How did Spork feel when he heard sh died?
Speaking of which. Who fathered Miyuki’s sworm? Is he still around even after her death?
Mic there is punishment in the afterlife, those three control brains need everything thrown at them for making their own people live in total hell because of their ruling. Has anyone in their past get to meet with them? Any sympathizers? Coddle drones? A past love interest that didn’t end well?
In the beginning of the 18-years-later au, Miyuki and Spork's PAKs and spirits are trapped in the belly of Zim's Infinite Energy Absorbing Thingy creation. Miyuki and Spork are kind of forced to face each other and make peace with the mistakes they made with each other in life while trapped. Obviously, Miyuki has more to apologize for. It's difficult for both of them, but eventually their bond and love for each other is strengthened because of it.
There is this whole subplot around Dipper accidentally pulling the IEAT (and Chammy Wamboo) through Ford's interdimensional portal.
Zim manages to get the IEAT to regurgitate their PAKs, freeing their spirits. He also uses their PAKs for his own research… which proves essential in future battles against the control brain ultimate upgrade.
(this is a continuation of another subplot where Zim summons Bill Cypher and makes a deal which results in an alternate reality where Bill controls the earth/ kills off the human race in exchange for Zim becoming a towering tallests who controls the entire irken race/ empire and makes the control brains subservient to his will.
This reality is eventually destroyed by an unlikely team up between Reg, Mini Moose Pepito Diablo and tallest Zim (who quickly realizes his fantasy existence does not bring him the joy or purpose he thought it would). Reg struggles to keep Bill trapped in a D&D style pocket dimension he has to continually build upon using the infinity sided dice, graph paper and his imagination.
This experience gives Reg some pretty bad PTSD. Reg, Zim and the others involved in rescuing their main reality keep this a secret until the IEAT return subplot pops up… but I got off topic; excuse me.)
As for during Miyuki's reign as tallest, almost every moment between her and Spork was awkward, mostly because of the Green brain constantly trying to drive a wedge between them.
Despite the backlash from Miyuki, Spork continued to think if Miyuki as his dearest friend. He continued to pine for her, silently. Spork was devastated when Miyuki died, but was under strict orders from the control brains to never display his grief in public. They wanted her reign and death swept under the rug. Spork is secretly glad his reign was so short. Existence felt hollow without her.
They were friends since smeethood; born on the same day in the same hall of the smeetery. Spork and Miyuki were always close in height, always standing just above their peers. Miyuki was always the more adventurous of the two and often dragged Spork on misadventures throughout the smeetery.
As cadets they were often paired with each other during holo combat training and real-time battle simulations.
They didn’t become a romantic couple until their years as foot generals, specifically in the early days of the Irken/ Planet Jacker war. Spork saved Miyuki during a particularly chaotic and violent ground battle. There was no denying for her Spork's loyalty and bravery made up for any visual appeal he lacked after that
For his personal protection, physically and professionally the drone who sired Miyuki's swarm was never spoken of by her. The deed was done in secret, in Miyuki's private chamber, designed to block the telepathic shackle connecting tallest and control brain.
The only other drone who knew his name is Mem, but that was centuries ago. The sire drone has enjoyed a long prosperous life and career, so as long as it's kept hush hush so to ensure his PAK will join the core collective, it should be okay to reveal it.
Believe it or not, it was PieLord Emis-Gee. He had broken the Irken power lifting record at the time. Miyuki was highly impressed by his raw strength (his cooking skills were a huge plus too. PieLord Gee makes the best muffins and cupcakes among many other items on the menu).
Miyuki was not very educated on safety practices or successful methods on natural Irken reproduction. Emis Gee, though he was fertile (rare for a drone his height) and he did the job, he was a little too…sharp and rough on contact, to be as vague as possible. The too deep puncture lead to complications on top of several other pre existing complications wich ultimately lead to Miyuki losing her swarm. Emis-Gee was heartbroken for her, but he was grateful she never blamed him or threw him in front of the death cannon, so to speak.
(This botched attempt was neither of their fault. When sent to the mandatory fertility seminar, modern Irken women are given as little information on the subject as possible and what little information is given, 45% is medically inaccurate or just propaganda . Irken males are never formally educated on the subject, so young Emis-Gee was operating completely blind. He was terrified to try at all, but orders are orders. You don’t say no to tallest Miyuki.)
When the control brains finally die, their punishment involves every person, Irken or otherwise, lining up to carve their grievances or the story of how the control brains hurt them/ destroyed their lives. (3 lines that seemingly stretch on for eternity)
Once the cuts into their flesh scab over the next person in line walks up to carve their story with a dull/ rusted blade, a shard of jagged glass ect. or their own claws, depending on the species of the individual carving their story.
Some people choose to stop carving and just speak to the brains. Most find it more satisfying to carve, but the brains were Irken once too. Some remember who they were and feel some kind of sympathy for them, even if it's difficult to muster that kind of sympathy from the pain they endured at the hands of the brains.
The control brains do in fact face eventually face everyone they ever hurt. They are forced to listen to their victim's stories and reflect on the villainous role they played. It takes an inconceivable amount of time, but the brains eventually learn to feel empathy and sympathy for those they hurt. They eventually feel genuine regret and make their apologies with sincerity. Until then, their wounds remain open, bleeding and festering.

ISIS, NEPHTHYS, HATHOR, BAT, BAPHOMET AND THE WAR OF THE WOMB OF CREATION: HORUS MARDUK AMEN-RA WAS THE CHRIST THAT MURDERED HIS BRIDE
PART ONE OF FOUR
BELOW ARE SOME QUOTES AND COMMENTS THAT ADD CONTEXT TO INFORMATION I WILL TALK ABOUT.
Anti Kirist: the Egyptian Antichrist…
Strangely, each time a short allusion is made about the Isis beheading, and more precisely of the Passion of her murderer, the Jumilhac papyrus voluntarily changes the name of Horus to Anti and that of Isis. Hathor in Hesat. I remind you, it was out of the question for Egyptian scholars to clearly evoke the sufferings of the gods, because a god is not subject to pain and even less to death! Hesat represents a foster cow, both mother of the nebrid[295] and double of Hathor. This is a new form of substitution so as not to mention the tragic disappearance of Isis. Jean Hani, philosopher specializing in Greek culture and creator of the Center for Research on Classical Antiquity, addressed this question of substitution in several studies related to the thought of Plutarch. He notes in issue 76 of the Revue des Études Grecques “that at the end of the episode, after the dismemberment of the falcon god, the hero changes his identity: there is no longer any question of Anti, but Horus, who moreover covers his flesh and reappears as a young child. This syncretism, as Jacques Vandier (translator of the Jumilhac papyrus) himself notes, is not surprising in the Ptolemaic period and, in any case, it is very revealing of the attitude of the Egyptian clergy towards the myth, in a way ‘taboo’, of the Dismemberment of Horus. Anti has obviously been substituted for Horus in order to ‘unload’ the latter.[296]”.
~Corpus Deae by Anton Parks~
Egyptian Sethanic practice is one, where one adopts the concept as Set being the first rebel to question the forced authority; however, with the “foundation” essence of Seth-an, moving through other gods even including Ra and Horus, all the while finding power in the form of primordial darkness, chaos called Apep. There is the avenue of Yatukih, or dark ancient Persian sorcery, centered in Ahriman. Possibly the most therionick or ‘demonic’ of the paths, Ahriman is recognized as the counter-force, which bears divinity from his intellect and cunning. In Zurvanite traditions, he clawed from his mother’s womb before Ahura Mazda to claim the power of lord of the world. Thus, intellect in its most natural sense belongs to Ahriman.
~Anthology of Sorcery V.1: Azazel and the Rephaim by Michael W. Ford~
Sounds like he needs to take care of the people trying to put noose around people’s necks on horses, you know so that he can get rid of those fear mongers trying to rule over everybody and then be free, and live a peaceful life in harmony with nature where you dance with your loved ones free of threats of violence from ignorant fear mongers in a village with everything you need provided by the natural world.
The solar and lunar currents between which is the middle pillar which is the bar, that's all well I'm good, but because of the damage to the Dynamo of the planet people who have that activation don't have the proper connection to the planets energy field anymore unless they deliberately marry the goddess. Ever noticed that the snakes always stop short of covering that one? ENKI let the information slip about how he genetically engineered the human race to his son Marduk, who was the Horus that cut the head off of Goddess Isis. Marduk exploited the knowledge that he got from ENKI about how humans were genetically engineered to try and defeat Set- Enlil. What most people don't know is that in utilizing that knowledge, it cut him off from the goddess and nature itself. After that, Marduk exploited that knowledge to try and enslave all of human kind instead of help them in any way, because he had lost his connection to nature he went completely mad without his feminine soul. So then you have the group that is using biological drugs to pry open only the top of the middle pillar, and not even going through the natural processes of the step-by-step activation. Those people don't even have their bottom chakras active at all while at the same time having pried open higher faculties. With greater divine feminine energies from black holes entering with the age of Aquarius the energy field of the Earth is going to force everyone that wants to stay on earth to connect to it. The ones that have the step-by-step activation up the middle pillar will have the choice of whether to marry the goddess or leave the planet, but the ones that do not have the step-by-step activation and have unnaturally pride open their upper faculties will be isolated by the immune system of the earth and dealt with appropriately.

Sorry to pull the emergency rip cord but what the actual antisemitic fuck is happening in that Jerusalem Post link about the chicago dyke march magnetothemagnificent dropped!? Was I the first person to read far enough down the article? Am I hallucinating this shit:
The most notorious antisemite in American history, Henry Ford, recognized the role of the Jews toward society in his book The International Jew—The World's Foremost Problem: “It is not forgotten that certain promises were made to them regarding their position in the world, and it is held that these prophecies will be fulfilled. The future of the Jew is intimately bound up with the future of this planet.”
After their commitment to unity and the inception of the nation, the Jews experienced numerous conflicts and reconciliations. However, they were all part of learning to balance the ego with altruism. The Book of Zohar writes about it (portion, Beshalach): “All the wars in the Torah are for peace and love.” This method is why Jews conceived such sublime concepts and as charity, mutual responsibility, and concern for the stranger long before any other nation developed any tendency toward compassion and consideration.
Until approximately the ruin of the Second Temple, we (more or less) held on to the method of correction. But around that time, the hatred between us overtook the nation and separated us entirely. This is why our sages point not to an external enemy as the cause of our exile and the destruction of the Temple, but to unfounded hatred among us.
Since then, we have been growing increasingly alienated and hateful toward one another until today the entire world cannot stand us. As individuals, people may not dislike Jews. There are decent people among us just as there are decent people everywhere. But as a nation, the stark contrast between the unity that we are meant to project and the abhorrence for each other that we are projecting de facto is the cause of the nations’ hatred of the Jewish nation and the Jewish state.
Are the Haredi okay!?!?!?!? Am I okay!?!?!? Can someone else confirm this is in that link and I'm not having a stroke? "we're not unified enough, that's why when the romans destroyed the second temple and all the pogroms and the holocaust happened, it was really all our fault" why is this their alternative to queer jews feeling alienated at pride?
Why wouldn't be pride open to Jews? Like.... who the hell even care if you're Jew??? It's not always all about you geez
goy moment.
#I'm genuinely unsure if I'd feel worse or better if someone else reads that “news” story and none of what I quoted was in there#I had more substantial things to say about the original topic but I'm too stunlocked now#tw antisemitism#on some level merely hallucinating self-hating quasi-trad-catholic haredi nonsense would be more reassuring than an editor publishing that#& this isn't magneto's fault either because the first couple of paragraphs look normal!#like you vaguely remember a thing you find the first link#it looks normalish you don't expect it to start quoting henry ford so you link it#and then it does cocomelon shit to me because I'm the first person to read it all the way down#I didn't even quote the bit about hitler

decided to just compile a bunch of comments about my sga 1x01 rising rewatch into a single post because i don’t actually want to make a hundred posts in a row, so here, under the cut, many rambles:
announcer guy does, in fact, speak english upon a second attempt. well done on not forgetting to not speak german, announcer guy.
“i’m afraid of the thing” elizabeth says, about the drone chair, while standing next to it and looking like she wants to fuck it
rodney in that orange sweater! very orange! very warm!
john is on screen. john’s first words are helicopters he knows how to fly. john KINDA LIKES IT in antarctica. john has barely done anything and i already feel like crying a little bit about this guy who LIKES ANTARCTICA because he just wants to fly
POOR CARSON when he almost kills two people. “ai told ya ai was the wrong pursohn” :(
i really love how john sees the drone coming at the (landed) helicopter and yells “get out!” and they throw open their doors and john JUMPS and then it’s just “ugh.” and he’s belly-down on the floor and still like, almost under the helicopter. an attempt was made, for sure. just not a very succesful one.
the way john looks around like he’s never seen a ceiling before when he enters the base is just. very funny. and then some guy in particular is looking at him because he’s a bit of a weirdo and john looks back and the guy sort of looks him up and down and john looks away as if to check if anybody saw that. hmm.
john’s face of “oops” after he sits down in the chair and it ACTIVATES and carson RUNS OFF to go get literally everyone and john is realizing he MAY have just made a very giant big mistake. PRICELESS
teyla: my people have long believed the wraith will come if we venture into the ancient city. sumner, when the wraith come after he ventures into the ancient city: [surprised pikachu face]
gotta love how john insisting on saving his people is what wakes up the wraith, and saving his people is also what landed john in antarctica in the first place because he tried it in afghanistan once before. which wouldn’t have happened if there hadn’t been an american war in afghanistan in the first place, which there wouldn’t have been if bush hadn’t thrown the us into it, which wouldn’t have happened without 9/11, so... bin laden woke the wraith?
on the other hand john would never have had to go on a rescue mission on his first day in pegasus if sumner hadn’t gone into that city against the wishes of the people that already lived there and had a history dating back thousands of years with the place, so more realistically, the expeditions’ colonizer mentality woke the wraith. and then they just kinda... kept going with that for the rest of the show, because it worked out so well on that first day.
anyway i’m not even there yet - puddlejumper! it jumps puddles!
have to love the moment john realizes the puddlejumper is pretty literally reading his mind and giving him anything he can think of that is within its power (so no turkey sandwiches, but that’s okay). john is already in love with it just based on the fact that IT CAN FLY AND GO FAST (“i kinda like it here”, restored) but then all the ancient technology just seems to know him and love him back and gives him way more than he even thinks to ask for. which, for john, who doesn’t really do well expressing desires? a FLYING SHIP that then READS HIS MIND? starstruck. love at first sight. john&puddlejumper, instant bffs. i bet it would have popped a compartment with some stray bits of wire if he’d asked for a friendship bracelet right then and there. ford sitting there witnessing this doesn’t even know how hard he’s thirdwheeling it in that moment.
now i am at the bit where sumner is taken from the wraith prison to see the actual wraith, and look, obviously they’re evil and feed on humans etc etc, but this particular wraith’s sense of dramatics? unparalleled. she has them bring her victims one by one to a large foggy room with a looong table set with a wonderful dinner and then she LEAVES a DEAD BODY sitting at the head of the table (implied to be the athosian that was taken before sumner?) and drops down from the ceiling while sumner has his back turned for no reason except the spectacle of it all, and dracula himself literally couldn’t have made a better display out of this. it’s maybe scary in the way that it makes clear she’s a cat toying with a helpless mouse before she eats it, but it’s also hilarious in the way that this is absolutely a very bored immortal being who had to stay up while the rest went to sleep and is inventing high school improv plays with her dinner for some diversion. don’t play with your food, wraith queen. you’re scaring your dinner.
life signs detector!!! ford didn’t get to name the puddlejumpers gateships, but that one stuck, no matter how much “we can name it later” john was trying to throw at it!!!
(god. there’s a ficlet somewhere in there about season 2 john having a moment where he realizes he’s on the hunt for ford using the thing they first discovered together and that ford gave its name.)
getting sidetracked here, but when john and ford find the group of humans caught by the wraith teyla goes “major!” and it makes me think that. well. how are the athosians supposed to know things like “major” and “colonel” are military ranks? what are the chances the pegasus galaxy uses the same designations? (don’t really know how the language thing works here - we’re hopefully not supposed to think they’re all speaking english, are they? i’ve never watched sg1, there’s probably lore about this, i assume. maybe alien titles somehow get perfect translations to earth ones and vice versa.) but i mean, teyla is too smart, she’d have it figured out already even if those words don’t exist in her galaxy, but some athosian somewhere is going to be very confused by this earth tendency to name way too many kids private and lieutenant, and then put all of them into the army. strange, to have your job decided for you at birth like that. earth people are weeeeird.
fjdkl john is like bye, gonna go find colonel sumner all on my own, run if you don’t hear from me in twenty minutes, and ford’s like “you’re the only one who can fly these people out of here” and “i’m saying i should be the one to go, sir” and john, with his savior can’t-leave-anyone-behind-gotta-do-this-personally-or-i-will-literally-die-from-not-almost-dying complex DOES NOT LISTEN to ford’s EXTREMELY ACCURATE objection. which is his right, as ranking officer, but is also a perfect showcase of why john Should Not Ever be in charge of atlantis, and why sam saying he was totally on the shortlist when she takes over command in s4 is funny but frightening if you’re on atlantis and like being alive.
sumner: “we travel through the stargate as peaceful explorers.” FDJKFD. god, that line, from that character, hilarious.
rodney comes to elizabeth full of enthusiasm about all the interesting stuff they’re finding in the city only to find her staring at the empty gate and when she says she should never have let them (the rescue party) go, he sobers up and says awkwardly “for what it’s worth, you made the right decision” and that’s GOOD that’s KIND.
back on the planet with the wraith everyone is running to the jumper while there are wraith darts whizzing through the air and teyla turns back, catches up with ford who was told to cover their six, disarms him (because he was firing at illusions, revealing their position), hands him back his weapon, pulls him in the direction of the puddlejumper, and PUSHES HIM ASIDE when they’re almost scooped up by a wraith dart, and i’m so here for teyla being allowed a moment of heroics that saves specifically ford, guy with a gun, and not a random athosian damsel in distress. teyla is fully on their level. teyla is perhaps above their level. thank you.
that scene at the end of this episode!! in which there’s a sort of party on atlantis and it’s all buzzing and relaxed while the athosians are mingling freely with the expedition members and they’re talking of friendship and ugh. UGH. there’s a better version of sga in an alternate universe where the expedition didn’t decide atlantis was totally theirs, actually, and they cooperate with the people that were already in the galaxy when they came there and learn from sumner’s mistake to actually respect what they have to say and form a single front and teyla takes over as head of the expedition in s4 when there’s a void left by elizabeth’s absence.
final thought that has always haunted me a little: john suddenly becoming the ranking military member on atlantis after sumner’s death is ?? one of those things where i wonder what the sgc was thinking in their personnel assignments. john wasn’t even supposed to BE THERE. if john hadn’t gone and sumner had still died (which was something they should have considered as a possiblitiy! they didn’t know what they were walking into at all! sumner is apparently the type to lead his own missions!), then what exactly would they have done? i don’t know much about how the us military operates but i’ve watched enough mash to have figured out the order of the ranks and it just seems. very odd to me? to take one (1) colonel on this mission and then ZERO lieutenant colonels OR majors (if john hadn’t stumbled his way into it, that is). like, are there any captains on atlantis? (i think there are?) or would ford, a lieutenant, have ended up ranking military member? this is like the surely-they-only-need-a-single-medical-doctor-right thing. WHAT IS THE SGC THINKING.
anyway. this was good. i liked this. i hadn’t rewatched the pilot in a while, and i only just now figured out how much of a while, because there was a bunch in here i didn’t remember. ON TO EPISODE TWO.
#stargatezing#here that's the stargate liveblogging tag now#sga#*#stargate atlantis#this is apparently 1600 words so uh. i think this is a better format than stray posts
